Suby In The House
I do read a lot of fashion magazines now, Vogue, Elle, marie claire, allure, Cosmopolitan etc to try a get more of a feel of the fashion industry editorial type images I am very interested in, I want to study what those photographers who are getting gigs shooting for these magazines are doing and why they are getting these gigs and I am not (me jealous here).
I always look on the bright side of things, it's only a matter of time before this lowly wannabe photographer is going to be shooting covers or spreads in magazines (at least I hope so). I listen to anyone who knows anything about the fashion industry, I go places, network as much as I can hoping maybe someone will see something they like and BANG.... Me The Man :)
But until all these wonderful dreamy things happen in my life, I keep trying to ensure I continue to take wonderful unique shots. It ain't easy, I hope I get it right more times than I get it wrong, the world of blogging is such an excellent way to get your images out to the world. who knows, maybe....... LOL
This image is of the lovely Marisha, I absolutely love her look, I actually stood behind the make-up artist to take this shot, all intentionally framed as that part of her face visible just looks so sexy, sublime and mysterious, reminds me of an advert I saw once in a magazine (don't ask which please :) )

This pic has a lot of nice elements. I'm kind of digging that crazy white globe in the foreground.

Did you try to sell some pictures to those magazine you read? I think that, if you can have a coherent serie, with the quality of your work you might succeed.

The composition of this shot is awesome, and I really liked reading your thoughts on where you want to take your photography.

Fashion photography is real hard to break into. Then again, what career in photography isn't? :)

Personally Suby I think the white bulb is really really distracting.
Good shot though. I'm not too into the make up.

The white bulb is very distracting.
To get where you want to be hmmm...gotta pay lots of dues. I actually have a friend who is a commercial photographer and does fashion photography, not for the magazines, but for the clothing manufactures. He actually works in a rather big commercial studio and it's not all that glamorous. They also deal with other types of product advertising, jewelry to food products to tires. Not all that glamorous as I said, but he's been doing it for years. I know his wife through one of the orchestras I am involved with and have talked to him about it a little.
Maybe you could check into some local boutiques near you to do work for their advertising? Maybe for next years Holiday Sales push? (Probably too late for this year.) I did a wee bit of modelling when I was younger in that kind of situation just local resellers. But they need advertising campaigns and you want work...gotta start somewhere right?

Great lighting and capture. I like how the jewels pick up the light of the blub.
